On the car when i connect phone, carplay starts up but continues to listen to the radio which is great. Also while using maps the radio still plays. However, in the van , carplay takes over the audio and plays whatever was last played on phone. I cant get radio to play without switching off carplay. Feb 16, 2023 · Since my setup automatically connects Carplay when the vehicle is started, I have to disconnect my phone, activate the Wi-Fi hotspot, connect any devices I want to use to Wi-Fi, then go reconnect my phone to the vehicle and Carplay then becomes usable while devices (including the phone with Carplay) remain connected to Wi-Fi.

Feb 5, 2020 · I have a wireless CarPlay unit and wireless CarPlay uses WiFi for the data/screen connectivity to the CarPlay unit from the phone. It’s a point to point connection. So with wireless CarPlay you need to have the WiFi on. Of course if you are using a wired CarPlay connection you don’t need the WiFi.

There is zero latency and it works as good or better than I've seen in OEM CarPlay examples from Volkswagen, Mazda, etc. I’ve always preferred wired though and I’ll keep trying both to find the best option for me. I like wired as it charges my phone and is 100% reliable.

Most CarPlay head-units will come with their own microphone which you will be expected to install somewhere in the headliner near your sun-visor.
