President Trump issued a memo authorizing the National Guard to post up in Los Angeles, but California Gov. Gavin Newsom has called it "illegal."

Hundreds of people gathered in Boston Monday to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in California and the arrest last week of a major union leader in Los Angeles.

HOW WE GOT HERE: The protests erupted after Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on Friday carried out raids in three locations across L.A., where dozens of people were taken into custody. Newsom called the raids “chaotic federal sweeps” that aimed to fill an “arbitrary arrest quota.”
