Less than two seasons into Rafael Devers' 10-year, $313.5 million contract extension, the Red Sox shockingly dealt the slugger to the Giants on Sunday night in exchange for some pitching and some prospects.

The Red Sox got the San Francisco Giants to take on all $271.153 million of the remaining money on Rafael Devers’ contract as part of Sunday’s blockbuster trade.

And it didn’t end there. After first baseman Triston Casas was lost for the season after tearing his patellar tendon, the Red Sox asked Devers if he’d be willing to play first base. Having already moved once, he was less than happy about that request and ultimately told the Red Sox no.
