Nintendo claims that Edward Tsai, Genki’s CEO, told CES attendees that his company had access to an authentic Switch 2 console, which it used to design its accessories.

Genki had said that the mock-up was based on a real Switch 2 system, and affirmed that their accessories would fit the new handheld. Nintendo caught wind of this and shut the rumor down quickly.

Genki disavowed that they had any black market Switch 2 console, even though they said it was easy to get one, days after meeting those lawyers. Even then, Genki’s position was hard to prove.

Nintendo lawyers reportedly visited Genki on the CES trade show floor in January after videos of its dummy Switch 2 console went viral before the system was formally revealed by Nintendo on 2nd April.
