Roberto Carlos Montoya ran from a Home Depot in Monrovia, about 20 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles, as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents began the operation Thursday morning, Monrovia City Manager Dylan Feik said in a statement.

A man who was believed to have been running from a raid by US immigration agents died Thursday after being hit by a car on a freeway, police said.City managers in Monrovia, near Los Angeles, said police had been called after there were reports of activity by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at a Home Depot.

In his statement, Feik stressed that "there is no ongoing ICE activity reported in Monrovia" and urged the public not to call police lines for updates, saying such calls "delay responses to ongoing emergencies.
