Following the deadly explosion at the Clairton Coke Works on Monday, the Clairton community is still processing what happened. Many people, like Roger Mount, pray for everyone involved. Mount has cut hair across the Clairton area for the last 12 years and knows just how important the plant is to the area.
The large turnout was a reflection of the deep sense of loss and growing anger over unsafe conditions at the U.S. Steel plants.
The health department began deploying mobile air units Thursday provided by Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection and Carnegie Mellon University. The units will travel around Clairton to test for dozens of hazardous air pollutants.
