SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean court on Friday ordered impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol to be released from jail, a move that could allow Yoon to stand trial for his rebellion charge without being physically detained.

The move followed a court ruling that the detention of President Yoon Suk Yeol was invalid, but it won’t affect the insurrection and other charges he faces for declaring martial law.

Amid rival mass rallies in Seoul, Yoon Suk Yeol is freed from detention as he faces trial on insurrection charges over his short-lived imposition of martial law.

South Korea’s impeached president, Yoon Suk Yeol, on Saturday was released from jail, where he was being held while he faces a criminal trial on charges of insurrection for declaring martial law in December.
