CANNON FALLS, Minn. — On the same day President Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico went into effect, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen visited a corn and soybean farm in southeast Minnesota to highlight the impact a trade war would have on the state’s farmers.

Minnesotan’s could see an increase in prices soon thanks to President Trump’s tariffs and the reciprocal tariffs from Canada, Mexico and China turning it into a trade war. That’s according to University of Minnesota marketing professor Paul Vaaler.

The pause on the tariffs, which are related to illegal immigration and fentanyl tracking, will expire on April 2, according to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
