Moldova on Wednesday signed a loan deal with its breakaway Transnistria region to supply 3 million cubic meters of gas amid an energy crisis stemming from Ukraine’s decision not to renew a deal on the transit of Russian gas to Europe earlier this month.

Russia said on Monday it had summoned the Moldovan ambassador in Moscow to protest against what Russia's foreign ministry called "unfounded accusations" against the Russian ambassador in Chisinau by a Moldovan political party.

Chisinau should come to an agreement with Moscow and gradually resolve the issue with Transnistria. This opinion was expressed by the head of state Alexander Lukashenko at a press conference on the main day of the presidential election in Belarus.

Zelenskyy said last year he had no intention of renewing the gas transit deal, stressing the importance for Europe of moving on from Russia and not allowing the Kremlin to ‘earn additional billions’ on Ukrainian blood.

An energy crisis that has left hundreds of thousands of people without heating and hot water in the breakaway region of Transnistria could soon end, officials in Moldova said Monday The Moldovan officials reported that the Moscow-friendly leaders of Transnistria had indicated they would accept shipments of gas from the European market to replace lost Russian supplies.
