Cambodia said on Sunday it had asked the International Court of Justice to resolve its border disputes with Thailand, after a flare-up in their long-running row led the Southeast Asian neighbours to mobilise troops on both sides of the border.

Cambodia’s defense ministry says that the country’s troops have not withdrawn from a patch of land whose ownership is hotly disputed by neighboring Thailand.

The governments of Thailand and Cambodia agreed to de-escalate a border standoff by adjusting military forces in the conflict zone, following a skirmish in late May. The decision was announced by Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in a post on X late Sunday.
