Former Maple Leaf forward and NHL Analyst Colby Armstrong made some waves recently when he suggested Mitch Marner could consider reuniting with his old GM.

With his six-year, $65.41 million contract set to expire on July 1, Marner has avoided in-season extension talks, despite the Maple Leafs reportedly approaching his camp for discussions, as Colaiacovo himself reported in the same podcast episode.

The front office has already decided to make Marner a lifetime Leaf, and Marner has stated repeatedly he wants to remain in Toronto.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were extremely active during deadline day on Friday (Mar. 7) bringing in Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins and Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers, while also moving Connor Dewar and Conor Timmins to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

According to Colaiacovo, the Leafs never pursued trading Marner until Carolina’s inquiry, at which point they informed him about the trade talks — leading to reports that Marner was asked to waive his no-move clause.

The biggest stunner of the NHL trade deadline was the Carolina Hurricanes trading Mikko Rantanen. Just weeks after picking him up from the Colorado Avalanche, they flipped him to the Dallas Stars after failed contract negotiations.

Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the Toronto Maple Leafs approached superstar forward Mitch Marner and asked if he would consider waiving his no-move clause to facilitate a trade in an effort to acquire Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes.
