A snowstorm sweeping through the US and Canada has left tens of thousands of people without power. The weather front brought icy rainfall and more than a foot (30.48cm) of snow to some areas. The National Weather Service reported that in Farmington, Connecticut and Sussex, New Jersey, the settled flakes reached up to 15 inches (38.1cm).

The storm will impact about 200,000 square miles with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in some areas. And more winter weather arrives midweek.

As the Mid-Atlantic digs out from a snowstorm, a new winter storm is underway in the Plains that will move through the Midwest before slamming the East Coast.
