Authorities are investigating an explosion that left a woman with life-threatening burns in eastern Kentucky. According to Kentucky State Police, the East Bernstadt Fire Department responded to a home explosion Wednesday afternoon.

The homeowner, 66-year-old Shirley Wynn, sustained severe burns covering about 80% of her body. After initial treatment, she’s now recovering at a specialized burn treatment facility in Louisville.

KSP says that the homeowner, "66-year-old Shirley Wynn, sustained severe burns covering about 80 percent of her body" and has been transferred to a specialized burn treatment facility in Louisville. A fire investigator with KSP says an investigation shows that the explosion may have been caused by propane gas used for floor space heaters.

According to Kentucky State Police, the woman sustained severe burns, which covered approximately 80% of her body.

Portions of the roof and multiple windows were blown out of the small home. The cause of the explosion is not known at this time.
