ASHEVILLE - As a winter snowstorm hits Western North Carolina — and is expected to ease the morning of Jan. 11 — many areas in the mountains are receiving inches of fresh snow, presenting a prime opportunity for the region's skiers.

Crews there are not only preparing for the chance of snow and ice on the roadways, but are still cleaning up from Hurricane Helene. The NWS Blacksburg VA issued an updated winter storm warning at 3:46 a.m. on Monday. The warning is for Ashe, Alleghany and Watauga counties.
