POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Iowa Health and Human Services announced the first human West Nile case in Iowa Thursday afternoon. The infection, which occurred in a middle-aged adult from northern Iowa, was confirmed through a test at the State Hygienic Lab.

Iowa officials have confirmed a case of West Nile Virus, the first in the state this year. The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services says one infection was identified. The person infected is a middle-aged adult (between 41-60 years old) from northern Iowa.
