In Chief of War, Momoa plays Kaʻiana, a legendary figure in Hawaiian history. He was the first chief to travel beyond the islands and lived during the turbulent time when Kamehameha the Great fought to unify the Hawaiian islands under his rule.

Chief of War airs weekly on Fridays for Apple TV+ subscribers. The streamer released the first two episodes on August 1, with the remaining seven episodes to air weekly until September 19. Yes! Apple TV+’s Chief of War is based on a true story, following Ka’iana, a high chief who returned to the islands after travelling internationally during the Wars of Unification. Ka’iana is played by Momoa, a Native Hawaiian himself, who also co-wrote and produced the series.
