There's a season for flash flooding every year, but 2025 has been marked by extremely deadly torrents of rainfall across the country.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Parts of the Kansas City area are included in a flash flood warning through 1:15 p.m. The National Weather Service issued the warning for eastern Johnson County, east central Wyandotte County, northwestern Cass County and southwestern Jackson County.

“If you’ve never seen water rise in front of you in minutes, it’s hard to conceive of how quickly that can happen—and how quickly your life and property can be at risk,” said Rachel Hogan Carr, executive director of the Nurture Nature Center, a nonprofit focused on flood-risk communication.

On Monday at 9:23 a.m. a flash flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 1:15 p.m. The warning is for Johnson, Wyandotte, Jackson and Cass counties.

At 5:31 p.m. on Saturday, the NWS Raleigh NC issued a flash flood warning in effect until 8:45 p.m. The warning is for Alamance, Guilford, Orange and Person counties.

At 11:58 a.m. on Friday, the NWS San Diego CA released an updated flash flood warning in effect until 2 p.m. for San Bernardino County.

The NWS Wakefield VA released an updated flash flood warning at 10:09 p.m. on Friday in effect until Saturday at 12:15 a.m. for Gates and Hertford counties.

An updated flash flood warning was released by the NWS Blacksburg VA on Saturday at 9:20 p.m. in effect until 11:45 p.m. for Caswell and Rockingham counties.

The National Weather Service released an updated flash flood warning at 6:15 a.m. on Thursday in effect until 9 a.m. The warning is for Clay, Jackson, Carroll, Lafayette and Ray counties.

The Overland Park Fire Department says an adult woman died Monday morning after she was overcome by flash flooding on a trail.

The NWS Blacksburg VA released a flash flood warning at 2:52 p.m. on Saturday in effect until 9 p.m. for Ashe County.
