Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami will lock horns in the opening match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday evening. The much-anticipated and revamped tournament gets underway this weekend and all eyes will be on Lionel Messi and his band of former Barcelona allies for the curtain-raiser.

Inter Miami is set to play its first match in the FIFA Club World Cup against Egyptian giants Al Ahly. With stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, the team hopes to recreate the success they enjoyed with FC Barcelona in 2009, 2011, and 2015.

Lionel Messi and a heavy security presence were on show as the revamped Club World Cup got under way in the United States on Saturday. Host city side Inter Miami, led by Argentine legend Messi, played out an entertaining goalless again Egyptian giants Al Ahly to kick off the tournament.

All eyes will undoubtedly be on eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, who won three Club World Cups during his legendary spell with Barcelona and now plays alongside fellow world champions and former Catalan stars Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami.
