Among the earliest were Lieutenant Colonel George Henry Nixon, Robert McGowan, Robert Baylor, Francis Barnes Lenoir, and William Thomas Lenoir. Morgantown was an early settlement on the Pearl River, and was originally known as LeNoir's Landing after William Thomas LeNoir.
